Today I get the pleasure of reviewing a Mr Vikki’s sauce – something I have never done before! Darth Naga, Mrs Naga and Marty seem to steal them all before I get the opportunity, but I successfully got one in the end!

Mr Vikki's Tomato and Nigella Chutney

Mr Vikki's Tomato and Nigella Chutney

My first thought about this product (other than “WOW a Mr Vikki product for ME to review, YAY”) was “WHAT ON EARTH IS NIGELLA?”, of course I now know the answer to this question, so I shall enlighten you! A Nigella plant is related to the Buttercup, and its seeds are found in a similar head to that of a poppy. They are often used in Indian cooking and give off a peppery smell when crushed.

Ingredients: Fresh Tomatoes (65%), Sugar, Vinegar, Fresh Ginger, Peppers, Garlic, Nigella Seeds, Vegetable Oil, Spices, Mustard, Salt.

Jar kindly provide by Mr Vikki’s

With that hurdle out of the way I decided it was about time to begin. I cracked open the jar – it gave me that satisfying pop a fresh jar of chutney gives – and before I even took the lid off the jar I was swamped with the smell of fresh tomato, not surprising seen as it is the first ingredient. The tomato smell immediately hit me and invited me in. Opening the jar, I could also smell the garlic and the Nigella seeds peppery scent.

I decided I could wait no longer, and tucked in. As with the smell, the tomato hit me immediately, consuming my senses. As the tomato started to fade the garlic and fresh ginger creeped in over the top, finally a burst of peppery nigella seeds and mustard hit me with a mild smack on the middle of my tongue. What more could you want?

There are so many ways you could enjoy this chutney! On cheese on toast, in a sandwich, with cold meats, as a dip, with a curry, straight out the jar, on crackers with cheese, mixed in with mashed potato, with chips instead of ketchup! The possibilities are ENDLESS!!!!

The packaging is minimal, but it allows you to see what your buying it all its glory, and still gives you all the key information! It comes in 250g jar, available from Mr Vikki’s website for £3, which in my opinion is brilliant value for a chutney with so many uses! With christmas coming up this would make a brilliant stocking filler, secret santa gift, or part of a hamper – thats if you manage not to eat it yourself, maybe you should buy two!

If you haven’t yet come across The Bath Pig, your really are missing on a treat! They make gorgeous and tasty chorizo products that the whole family can enjoy – and they taste great in almost anything!

BathPig Chorizo Snack (Piglets)

The Bath Pig Mini Chorizo Snacks (Piglets)

So, new to The Bath Pig product selection is the “mini chorizo snack pack” – informally known to me and my family as “piglets”! The description on the packaging describes them as cured pork sausage blended with smoked paprika and spices, which is exactly what they are!

Ingredients: pork, salt, smoked paprika, black pepper, paprika extract, garlic, sodium nitrite, sodium nitrate.

The first ingredient is pork, of course, and it is high quality british pork from farms that are approved by Freedom Food according to RSPCA standards, meaning the piggies had happy lives, which is brilliant!

There is a perfect amount of seasoning in these little chorizos, just enough to give you a little spice on your tongue, and the taste of smoked paprika taking charge over your entire mouth. The smoked paprika is also the initial smell when you open the bag, really inviting you in and making you want more!

They are wheat, gluten and dairy free, so do not fret if you suffer from allergies, you can still enjoy these tasty treats!

This isn’t a particularly spicy or hot product, but it is rich in flavour and really tasty!

These snack packs would be great as part of a lunch box or picnic. You could also chop them up and add them to other things like cheese on toast, sandwiches and toasties, pasta, salad or rice! You could use them simply chopped or chopped and fried in a little oil, both ways taste amazing!

These little chorizos come in a small purple bag weighing in at 70g – perfect size for a snack! The packaging clearly states what it is you’ll be eating and the fact that its british. The packaging is easy to read and understand and tells you a bit about the company and the sources of your products! These little snack packs are currently not available online, but they can be bought from a stockist and you can find your local stockist on the bath pig website!

Satan's Spawn - Evil Hot Gummi Bears

Satan's Spawn - Evil Hot Gummi Bears

These are evil hot gummy bears, as the description on the packet reads! And they really do mean it! These cute little bears bite back!

Are you, like me, a gummy bear fan? And a chilli fan? These seem ideal! They are small, orange gummy bears with a cute and harmless appearance, as innocent as any bear shaped gummy sweet could be! They even smell innocent, with a Delicious and inviting fruity smell. However, this is all an act and they are trying to deceive you! Be warned! I immediately popped one in my mouth, naively thinking to myself “what harm can a little gummy bear really do?” – famous last thoughts! Fruity gummy bear flavour starts, but they soon bite back with heat, and oddly enough its all on the left side of my mouth! The flavour is intense and hot and completely takes you by surprise! My immediate reaction was “where is Hot Juan? He has to try these!” and he did, and they did the same thing to him! These bears have bite!

So, what do they contain I hear you ask?

Ingredients: glucose syrup, sugar, gelatine, citric acid, habanero chilli, fruit concentrate (grape, apple, apricots), flavourings, coating agent: vegetable oil, bees wax(E901).

Satan’s Spawn kindly provided by www.hot-headz.com

You can really smell the fruit concentrates and you can taste them to start with too, but then the habanero kicks in and really takes over your entire mouth!

These evil but cute creatures come in bags of 250g, with a label on the front warning you about their evilness – stating it isn’t their fault, these spiteful little devils were just born bad! They can be bought at the very reasonable price of £2.99 from the hot-headz website.

Brilliant for birthdays or christmas, or taking to the cinema as a spicy sweet alternative while you enjoy your film! Or if your feeling cheeky this halloween, you could even use them as a trick treat for those annoying trick or treaters!

Spicymonkey Satay Sauce

Spicymonkey Satay Sauce

Here is, yet another brilliant product from www.spicymonkey.co.uk! If you haven’t tried their products your missing out! Read our other spicymonkey reviews and you’ll see what I mean! I first tried this product at West Dean Chilli Fiesta, and begged Hot Juan to let me review it! I think I may of eaten a large majority of the sample as well!

Spicymonkey’s satay sauce comes in a 190ml jar, that is nicely labelled and very attractive looking. It has both the name of the company and the name of the sauce boldly written on the front, with the chinese flag between them – after all, this sauce was based on a chinese one! The label also has a brief description of the product – “fragrant, mild but tingly”, an ingredients list, address and website, and a recipe suggestion – the consumers best friend!

Ingredients: Tomatoes, Pure Honey, Soy Beans, Peanuts, Salt, Sesame Oil, Peanut Oil, White Pepper, Lactic Acid and Amino Nitrogen Acid.

Jar kindly provided by Spicymonkey

When I cracked open the jar I did what I would do with any new sauce, and gave it a good sniffing! I was hit by the strong scent of sesame and peanut oil, and of course the peanuts! It smelt fantastic and really invited me to dig in! So I did! Instantly i was hit by the rich flavour of the tomatoes, and is this faded the peanut flavour kicked in, with a peppery heat at the back of my mouth. This sauce isn’t very hot, but is very rich in flavour and suitable for the whole family! It was just as good as I remember it being at West Dean!

That evening we happened to be having chicken stir-fry for dinner, and while my family used sweet chilli and other such sauces i was heaping on the satay sauce – I’m sure my family would of been to if i hadn’t forbidden them from consuming my new sauce! It was delicious!

This sauce could be used for a fairly wide range of things! I used it in stir-fry as a sauce afterwards. The recipe suggestion on the jar suggests adding it to cooked chicken along with spring onion and snap peas before serving it on a bed of rice or noodles. But you could also use it for dipping breads and raw vegetables in, or in a sandwich to give that extra boost of flavour! You could even use it as a marinade if you wanted to!

A jar of Satay Sauce costs £3.65 and can be bought from Spicymonkey (www.spicymonkey.co.uk). This is good value for a jar of sauce with so many uses! My only advice is to make sure you buy enough, because its incredibly more-ish and may not last as long as you hoped – unless, like me, you make its consumption banned for everyone but you!
