Mad Dog 357 Pure Ghost Hot Sauce

Ashley Foods is run by David Ashley who started making Mad Dog Barbeque sauce back in 1985, five years later he moved out of the home kitchen and started commercial production, now the Mad Dog range of sauces is famous such sauces as “357 Mad Dog Hot Sauce 357.000 Scoville” which was one of the first Ashley Foods product I tried, and at the time it was one of the hottest sauces on the market.

Mad Dog 357 Pure Ghost has a silver label over printed in black and red to great effect, the sauce is a dark tan colour, on opening the sauce has a spicy sweet vinegar smell, the taste is of an instant of sweetness followed by some real heat that starts hot and just seems to get hotter, I can still feel my tougue, but the back of my mouse is on fire and there is a little sweat breaking out.

Ingredients: Vinegar, Evaporated Cane Juice, Ghost Pepper/Bhut Jolokia (Worlds Hottest Pepper), Fresh Habanero Peppers, Garlic, Onion, Peri Peri Peppers, Spices and Xanthan Gum.

The taste is arriving now as my mouth is cooling down, so it is time for another spoonful, this time it not such a shock to the system and I can taste what I think must be the cane Juice and garlic, with that unmistakable Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Pepper) heat, this sauce has a unique flavour, I started thinking of Thai Curries, and using it in stir frys, it is very moreish, I am tempted by a third teaspoon, but I have to cook later and will probably over spice everything anyway.

Tesco is now stocking both Dave’s Insanity Sauce at £2.98 and Dave’s Ghost Pepper Sauce at £5.99 per bottle.

I suspect at these prices they will not be around for long.
