Happy Chrimbo/Hannuka/Xmas/Christmas and whatever the heck else people celebrate/call it during the yuletide season, I know I usually say “I’ve got a cracking review for you all today” but this time I haven’t just got a cracking review, I have what could be the ULTIMATE chrimbo gift for Chilli headz, and whaddya know, it comes from the UK’s answer to Blair, our very own Gerald Fowler of The Chilli Pepper Company!!

Heart Throb from The Chilli Pepper Company

Gerald has created a one of a kind artisan sauce, for those of you who like your collectors items, wrap your peepers round this, because its a doozy!!

Ingredients: Trinidad Scorpion and Naga Viper Chilli, Tomatoes, Vinegar, Spices, Chilli Flavour.

Okay let me just start this by saying that “Heart Throb” is by no means the hottest sauce the CPC has ever done, oh noooooo that particular badge belongs firmly on the chest of “15 Minute Burn”, but this is by far the sauce that CPC has that covers both heat and flavour in equal measures..so you could say (and I quote) that this is their hottest and tastiest sauce yet..so its the hottest of their tasty sauces!

The packaging is nothing short of fooking legendary, I thought i had seen it all, but this sauce comes in a heart shaped bottle with an oldschool style pop top, the label hanging around its neck from gold thread like a medallion of bragging rights, this one is a definite collectors bottle, its the sort of thing you’d see in a major sauce fans collection for hundreds of dollars…BUT! This is the UK we’re talking about…and its the CPC..so you KNOW its not gonna be THAT expensive..I think at this point I’ll let my video do the talking, to give you an idea of the flavour and heat of this one, take a look at this…

What did I tell you?? Its warm, but its not off the charts..its tasty, but its got a kick like a proverbial mule! But go ahead and do a dessert spoon of it and you WILL regret it, this stuff is best used sparingly, add it to dips and sprinkle on chips, chuck a bit in your chilli or mix it in to a curry..whatever you do with you’ll enjoy it, and thats the main part!

The sauce comes in three varieties and as such, commands three different price tags:

1. Heart Throb sauce boxed in LTD edition bottle: £5
2. Heart Throb sauce boxed in LTD edition bottle with wax sealed vial of 1 million shu oleoresin: £10
3. Heart Throb sauce boxed in LTD edition bottle with wax sealed vial of 15 million shu pure crystal extract (also a collectors item and worth £12 on its own!): £15

If you want my advice, and you know a big hot sauce fan..head on over to www.chileseeds.co.uk and get em the deluxe £15 edition to put on display and the £5 edition for them to actually taste the sauce (because it really does have to be tasted!) and they’ll love you forever, trust me, ANY chilli fan will be happy with this in their collection, in fact I’d be extremely surprised to meet any chilli head who DOESN’T want a bottle of this, then of course I’ll give em a slap so they come to their senses!!

The Chilli Pepper Company – Naga Viper ...

We have heard from Gerald at The Chilli Pepper Company that Naga Viper Seeds should be available August/September 2011, they are collecting names/email address from interested growers.

Just in case you missed the news, the Naga Viper is now the official Worlds Hottest Chilli, according to the Guinness Book of Records at 1,382,118 Scovile Units.

As with most things like this there is bound to be a shortage of supply at the beginning, so email chile.seeds@chileseeds.co.uk and get on the list ASAP.

Top News – Two New World Records Set

The Chilli Pepper Company – Naga Viper ...

Lots of excitement this month with not one but two new Guinness World Record Chillies, First the Infinity Chilli at 1,067,286 SHU’s got the number one spot away from the Bhut Jolokia, then if that was not enough the Naga Viper piped that with 1,382,118 SHU’s, both are UK developed, and while there has been lots of press about if they are stable, we must remember that the Red Savina  Habanero was a mutant red pepper found in a field or Orange habs (or so I have been told) by Frank Garcia of GNS Spices.

We have just seen an email from the Guinness World Records organisation that now puts the Naga Viper from The Chilli Pepper Company as the Worlds Hottest Chilli.

So how HOT is the Naga Viper:- The worlds most popular chilli is the Jalapeno it rates at between 2500 – 5000 SHU*  that makes the Naga Viper approx between 267 and 479  times hotter, and it is a massive 281,714 SHU’s* hotter that the current Guinness World Record Holder the Infinity Chilli.

The email from Guinness World Record organisation reads:-

“Thank you Gerald.

The record was entered into our database today with the following text.

The hottest chilli is the Naga Viper (capsicum chinense) British chilli farmer, Gerald Fowler of The Chilli Pepper Company, which has been rated at 1,382,118 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), according to tests conducted by the Warwick HRI Mineral Analysis Laboratory, UK, in November 2010.

We are going to send you a certificate in the next few days.

“Regulation No 1334/2008 on the flavouring and certain food ingredients with flavouring properties” was issued on the 16th December 2008, it is 17 pages long and covers lots of chemical compounds most of us have never hear about before.

16 Million Pure Capsaicin Crystal

The important part is a ban for us is on Capsaicin as an additive to foods, there has been a bit of a debate as to what this covers, many like us expected it just to cover pure capsaicin extract, but Stuart from Hot-Headz has been trying to get this clarified, and the advice he is getting is any product extracted/purified from a natural product that contains Capsaicin would be effected.

So if you use just pure naga puree, you are OK as this puree would not contain more Capsaicin than the original products. The advice Stuart received said that there is a grace period for products manufactured before 20th January 2011, these can continue to be sold until the Best Before Date is reached.

If this advice is correct this would affect lots of other products not just hot sauces, you often see Paprika extract in crisps and snack products.

This ban would seem on the face of it to be ridiculous, but would you now risk importing products that contain extract or the extract its self, the industry need this further clarified and that could be expensive.

On the plus side the UK has produced three of the hottest chillies in the world, the Dorset Naga, the Infinity Chilli and the Naga Viper, what a good time to start marketing these, with Scoville ratings over 1M each theses chillies can make sauces that will make a grown man cry (me included).

Stuart says he has enough stock of his Super Hot extract sauces to last a couple of months, and after that there will be no more, while they have been a interesting products to sell the volume has always been in the natural chilli products

We will keep you all up to date as we learn any more about how this will effect UK manufacturers of Hot Sauces and Chilli Snacks

It is always a surprise which articles are in the TOP 10, but no real surprise the Naga Viper articles are well represented, and like last year recipe articles tale many of the top spots.

The Domino’s Meltdown Pizza review was in at No. 9 which generated 1000′s of page views over the year. We average 2 page views per visitor, a low number of a site, but expected for a site that’s main task is to provide information and links to the suppliers.

Oddly the Belfast Chilli Fest was in the top 10 again (It was there last year), with the top West Dean Chilli Fiesta was about 15th in the list
