Holy Cow - Himalayan Hot Garlic

Holy Cow - Himalayan Hot Garlic

Indian food has become very popular and readily available. I love Indian food and this Indian influenced hot sauce is no exception. This is the perfect sauce for and fans of Indian and Garlic!

When opening this sauce, be careful, you will be hit by a strong garlic smell. You can get a hint of a slight lemon scent and a fair amount of chilli. It has the thin consistency that you would expect from a sauce, dip or dressing the ingredients are well mixed and the sauce does not seperate.

The sauce is a dark Orange colour with small flecks of white – small pieces of garlic – and red flecks of chilli suspended within it. When tasting the sauce the first thing you taste is the lemon, which is not too strong but is defiantly there. Following the lemon, there is a very powerful garlic punch which then leaves with a slight heat at the top and back of the mouth and in the throat.

The sauce isn’t hot; just has a very pleasantly warming. The main flavour is garlic rather than chilli; the chilli is used as a complementing flavour rather than the main attraction. This sauce would be great with prawns or chicken. It could also be used in stir-fry or for dipping or spreading. Alternatively, mix it with some salad cream or a different but tasty thousand island dressing!

Ingredients: Water, Garlic (19%), Red Chilli Puree (10%), Sugar, Lemon juice concentrate (5%), Habanero Chilli Puree (peppers, salt, acetic acid), Salt, Cornflour, Garlic Granules, Colour (paprika extract), stabiliser (xanthan gum), Crushed chilli.

Seeing this it is obvious where the flavours you can smell and taste are coming from! Great mixed into all kinds of food! I’m off camping tomorrow for a week and this is accompanying me to brighten up my baked beans!

The sauce contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. It is suitable for Vegetarians, Vegans and coeliacs and is Gluten free. It comes in a 290g bottle and is available at ASDA for £1.00.

Blairs Ultra Death

Blairs Ultra Death

Darth Naga reviews – Blair’s Ultra Death – Well its that time again chilefanz!! Today I bring you my latest video review, and I reckon this one may just go down in history as the second stupidest thing I have ever done (the first will hopefully be uploaded to youtube at some stage LOL!) stupid for the simple fact that after hearing from Rose Seymour that James beck said “we don’t use milk in our video reviews in the US” I decided to hit the bottom end of mental and do a vid review WITHOUT MILK!! But anyway, the sauce I am reviewing today comes from the godfather of the US hotsauce scene Mr Blair Lazar himself, and this particular sauce is famous for not only being the hottest sauce he mass produces, but also for being one of the only ones to have its name changed during his major rebranding last year!

David’s Chilli Oil – Much more than just a gourmet oil – This is not just an “Oil and Chilli” blend; there is a whole extra level of flavour to be found here and with Rape seed oil becoming the New Olive oil, its time may have come. This version is made a little quicker and simpler by pre-cooking the rice, traditionally the rice would be added with the stock at the end of preparation and then cooked for 45-60 minutes.

Soon, people all across America will be doing outdoor grilling and barbecuing, celebrating Memorial Day Weekend at the end of this month, and wondering what to do with bored kids all day long now that school will be out for the summer.

Thai Pineapple Curry with Birds Eye Chillies – This recipe comes from a friend of Darth Naga, Sean (also know as Relentl3ss), who has cooked this for Darth and Mrs Naga, so it suspect it will taste very good. It uses the popular Birds Eye Chilli, and not of the ingredients should be hard to find in a reasonable supermarket.

We tend to pot-on gradually, so we use 3” pots first. Using very loose seedling compost will help this stage. We like to use vermiculite on the surface and perlite in the mix.

Holy Cow! Spicy Bombay Ketchup

Holy Cow! Spicy Bombay Ketchup

BBQ sauce is a area that seems to cover all sorts of sauces, I love BBQ, especially slow cooked pulled pork with lashings of BBQ Sauces, but this sauce is a surprisingly different.

On opening the sauce you can smell the Tomato, Vinegar and a touch of Lemon and Mint. The sauce has a good consistency you would expect from a BBQ sauce, with all the ingredients well suspended in the mix.

The sauces is a dark red colour with small flecks of what I suspect is the mint floating in it, and it is the mint that is the first flavour you taste, then the vinegar and tomato, then finally the lemon and salt. The base sauce is nice and sweet; it reminds me of some of the sauces you get served with roast lamb or lamb shanks.

There is very little heat from the Habanero chillies, but is has a pleasant slight warmth, I can see a recipe for slow cooked BBQ lamb coming soon, this sauce would be excellent at cutting the sometimes fatty taste of the lamb. (It is traditional to use Mint and Vinegar to do this with roast Lamb).

Ingredients: Water, Sugar, Tomato Paste (18%), Spirit Vinegar, Cornflour, Garlic Powder, Salt, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Chilli Powder, Mustard Seed, Habanero Chilli Puree (Habanero Peppers, Salt, Acidity Regulator: Acetic Acid), Crushed Chilli, Dried Mint, Paprika Extract.

Bottle Kindly supplied by Holy Cow! Food Co.

As a BBQ sauces this was not what I expected, no molasses, no smoke, but as a accompaniment for BBQ Lamb, or in/on a Lamb kebab it is excellent, it won’t last long we do like our BBQ’s here at ChileFoundry HQ.

The sauces contains, no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, it is suitable for Vegetarians, Vegans and being gluten free Coelicas as well. It comes in a 305g bottle and is currently on offer at the special price of just £1.49 in ASDA stores, for more information visit www.holycowfc.com

Based in Witney in Oxfordshire, The Holy Cow Food Company, is a fast growing business. The recipes for the sauces have been developed from Kiran Bhandari family recipes, originally manufactured in their kitchen, they soon had to move production to a small unit in Witney and then with a £300,000 deal from ASDA production is now based in Birmingham.

Born in New Delhi Kiran moved to the UK in 1970 and ran a successful business with her Husband Sarvjit, in 1998 she began teaching cooking classes to adults at schools around Oxford. The students loved the sauces and they soon realised there was a gap in the market.
