Who Dares Burns! Fiery Habanero Chile Con Queso

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING CHILEFANZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!…thats if it is morning of course! If not then good afternoon! Today I have decided to review a product that could easily be a match made in heaven, it combines two of my favourite things in life, cheese and chilli! Now I have reviewed a product like this before and granted it was fookin hot and it tasted quite nice..but this one is a little closer to my heart.

Its a new product from my old pal Stu over at www.hot-headz.com and he’s listened to the people who have asked for a product like this time and time again as we know full well the only other well known brand rarely ships any to the uk, so we turned to Hot Headz to help us, and they answered our call…and so it was born!

“Who dares burns chile con queso” or “Who dares cheese” as I like to call it is something I think all chileheads in the UK have been after for a long time, its not easy to come by a product that combines the two main ingredients sooooo well, sure you have lots of “nacho cheese” and “chilli cheese” dips in supermarkets but they are bland and have little to no discernible heat at all, well Stu decided to take a stand for the UK and change all that!!

Ingredients: Whey, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Cheese (Pasteurized Milk, Cheese Cultures, Salt, enzymes), Bell Peppers, Tomato Paste, Sodium Phosphate, Less than 2% Salt, Lactic Acid, Modified Food Starch, Jalapeno Peppers (Jalapeno Peppers, Water, Vinegar, Salt, Calcium Chloride & Less than 1% Sodium Benzoate), Vinegar, Onion Flakes, Guar Gum, Sorbic Acid as a preservative, Habanero Pepper, Nacho Seasoning (Chili pepper, dehydrated onion & garlic, spices, paprika, maltodextrin, natural flavor, salt), Annatto, Red Chili Pepper, Xanthan Gum, Artificial Flavor, Natural Garlic Concentrate, Mono and DiGlycerides, Lecithin.

I’m lovig the redesigned labels that are hitting the “Who Dares Burns” range atm with the platinum wings i think it looks great, and it adorns the side of this queso jar like a winged proclamation of “I’m hot, and bloody tasty too!”, Hot Headz would only put their brand on this knowing full well that it tastes awesome and has a kick too!

I twisted off the bright red lid and took a sniff of the stuff inside, there was the unmistakeable smell of cheese (cheddar i think) and habs and this brought a cheeky little smile to my chubby face, the sauce itself if a creamy yellow colour, quite thick and with flecks of green, black and red running through it, it was clear already that i was going to enjoy this so i grabbed a spoon and dug in…WOW! the flavour straight away was very intense and deliciously cheesy! then the heat from the hab’s and Jalapeno’s kicked in and i was in heaven!

As i carried on eating a few more spoonfuls i noticed that the heat, although not hot was certainly a building heat that made itself very noticeable after a couple more bites!

Overall i think its safe to say that I did enjoy this queso and i think it will appeal to a broad spectrum of chile headz, the only let down for me was the heat level, I would have preferred more heat with the awesome cheesiness! (perhaps theres an idea for another product Stu?? a hotter variant? call me!! LOL) but as it stands I think Hot Headz have hit the nail on the head with this one as at this heat level more people can appreciate it!

Cambridge Chilli Farm – Ghost Pepper 10 Review – While at the Firey Foods Festival in Brighton, Chris & Rosie Jagger from Volcano Chilli asked me when I was going to review a sauce that they have found to be an excellent seller, Chris then sent me another bottle, he said that the recipe has been improved from the original version.

Chilli powder put in husbands pants – According to the Cambridge News Sharron Mackay the defendant in a fraud trial put chilli powder in her husband’s underpants as their marriage fell apart.

Orange Krush Hot Sauce – I’ve been sent a bottle of “Orange Krush” to taste and give my (expert? lol) opinion on, this sauce again comes from www.Hot-headz.com and i believe is the only place in the uk you can buy it, i say this as after a brief search using the trusted google, hot-headz was the only one that came up in the uk!

Could you eat “Probably the World’s Hottest Curry” and win £100 – Fire Foods and local Grantham’s Bindi Restaurant are putting down a challenge to anyone who thinks they are tough enough!

Lady Bird Johnson’s Pedernales River Chili Recipe – This recipe originally contained beef suet, but that ingredient was omitted after LJB’s severe heart attack when he was Senate majority leader. Remember to skim the fat off the chilli.

Darth Naga reviews – Blair’s Ultra Death – Well its that time again chilefanz!! Today I bring you my latest video review, and I reckon this one may just go down in history as the second stupidest thing I have ever done (the first will hopefully be uploaded to youtube at some stage LOL!) stupid for the simple fact that after hearing from Rose Seymour that James beck said “we don’t use milk in our video reviews in the US” I decided to hit the bottom end of mental and do a vid review WITHOUT MILK!! But anyway, the sauce I am reviewing today comes from the godfather of the US hotsauce scene Mr Blair Lazar himself, and this particular sauce is famous for not only being the hottest sauce he mass produces, but also for being one of the only ones to have its name changed during his major rebranding last year!

David’s Chilli Oil – Much more than just a gourmet oil – This is not just an “Oil and Chilli” blend; there is a whole extra level of flavour to be found here and with Rape seed oil becoming the New Olive oil, its time may have come. I am sure you will see more and more gourmet products based on Rape seed oil.

ChilliPepperPete’s Easy Fish Jambalaya Recipe – Jambalaya is a Louisiana Creole dish of Spanish and French influence, it is a close relation to the Spanish paella. This version is made a little quicker and simpler by pre-cooking the rice, traditionally the rice would be added with the stock at the end of preparation and then cooked for 45-60 minutes.

Scott Roberts — Chilli Letter from America #6 – It’s hard to believe it’s already May of 2010. Soon, people all across America will be doing outdoor grilling and barbecuing, celebrating Memorial Day Weekend at the end of this month, and wondering what to do with bored kids all day long now that school will be out for the summer.

Thai Pineapple Curry with Birds Eye Chillies – This recipe comes from a friend of Darth Naga, Sean (also know as Relentl3ss), who has cooked this for Darth and Mrs Naga, so it suspect it will taste very good. It uses the popular Birds Eye Chilli, and not of the ingredients should be hard to find in a reasonable supermarket.

The Chilli Jam Man – The 3 Peaks Chilli Jam – RIGHT let me just start out this review by stating that i’m NOT a big fan of sweet chilli things..problem is people keep sending me sweet chilli things and they are slowly changing my mind!! Todays “Jam” comes from a guy that up until I received this jar and then added him on twitter I knew nothing at all about him, but after a bit of net sleuthing I found out a little.

Growing Chillies from Seed: Part 2 – Once you have some seedlings to pot-on (see picture 1), it is time to separate them and pot them in individual pots. We tend to pot-on gradually, so we use 3” pots first. Using very loose seedling compost will help this stage. We like to use vermiculite on the surface and perlite in the mix.

Word up my chilli compadres! here I am once again with another hot sauce review to brighten up an otherwise boring work day! The sauce i’m reviewing today comes from one of the grandmasters of the UK hotsauce scene, none other than Stuart McAllister aka “Dr Hotz” who runs the company “Hot Headz” (henceforth known as HH).

Hot-Headz Naga Sauce

Stu started HH back in 1994 and over the past 16 years it has become not only one of the best places on the net for import hot sauce, but they also make some damn fine sauces themselves, including my personal all time favourite “Who Dares Burns“.

But enough about me and my favourite things, lets crack on with this mouthwatering review!

Ingredients: tomato, water, onion, sugar, vinegar, naga chilli, ginger, garlic, salt and sunflower oil.

Right, I’m not sure if we have done a feature on it yet (we definitely should!) but if you hadn’t noticed, HH have done a major re-branding across their entire own range of sauces, and amongst the re-brands there are a couple of sauces that have had the recipes improved, one of these is their “Naga sauce”. Hot Juan reviewed the naga sauce way back in may of last year (oh how time flies) and he found it to be very nice and thus gave it a good 3.5 out of 5.

Now I spoke to Stuart about his Naga sauce, as I still have a bottle barely touched, for the simple reason that it was wayyyyyyy to watery for me, the flavour was amazing but the consistency was too runny and lacked body. This “New improved recipe” Naga sauce therefore caught my eye and as such I HAD to review it!

The bottle looks absolutely amazing, the new HH logo and design of the labels is something that has really revamped HH in my eyes, the label contains the name of the sauce, its ingredients and a little about hot headz themselves along with a new improved chilli rating! This particular sauce has 5 chilli’s which obviously means its bloody hot!

I twisted the cap off and poured some out, instantly noticing the pungent smell of both garlic and ginger with the Naga lingering in the background making sure it wasn’t going to be ignored!

The consistency is VASTLY improved, it now actually has little chunks of Naga flesh and seeds throughout, the sauce has a slight orangey red colour to it with flecks of white and it pours beautifully, I wasted no time in placing the spoon into my mouth to fully savour the flavour and heat of this improved sauce.

Immediately I was hit with a slight sweetness which though unexpected certainly complimented the ginger and garlic well, a hint of Naga flavour was also present though perhaps not as much as I would have liked. The heat was piercing, my tongue immediately reacted to the heat by recoiling a little as the pain spread across my lips and the roof of my mouth. The heat was a lingering one, it seemed to hang around for a good 5 or so minutes before easing off enough for me to continue writing this review!

This is one fantastic Naga sauce, the heat and flavour are a perfect combination that seem to work well and I could imagine this sauce being good splashed over eggs, fish, chips and definitely burgers!! With barbecue season upon us you’d be mad not to go to www.hot-headz.com and pick up a bottle of this for a mere £3.99 which considering its many uses is a bargain price!!
